SAM ROSENTHAL
Director of Photography/ Camera Operator

I am an award-winning Cinematographer who works on documentaries, TV series, and commercial content.
My work has taken me around the world and ranging from following a band of circus performers through Nepal to documenting the aftermath of natural disasters and political unrest in Haiti. My footage can be seen on networks such as VICE, New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, National Geographic, HULU, CBS, and Netflix.
I have also been the cinematographer on over 20 narrative films and have won awards in response to my efforts in lighting, camerawork, and ability to use a positive and productive work ethic in some of the most challenging scenarios.
Although I am open to shooting on an iPhone if it works for the story, I take pride in maintaining comprehensive and organized SONY FX9 and FX3 camera packages. My FX9 can be built up for studio work or stripped down for more intimate verite scenes and my FX3 often works as a second angle or flies on my Ronin RS3. Additionally, I own a lighting and grip van named "Bruno" which has personally been designed with the latest in LED technology and is great for interviews and commercial work.
I have completed my Hostile Environment and First Aid Training (HEFAT) and hold an FAA Drone Pilot's license.
My recent accolades in 2024 include a PEABODY AWARD for an episode I shot of USA Today's "States of America" titled The Post Roe Baby Boom: Inside Mississippi's Maternal Health Crisis.
